07:36 am: Could it be...spring?
Yesterday was the first time in a long while it was warm enough in the morning that I didn't have to turn on a heater. Also, the sakura in front of the school have started to bloom. I think it's safe to say that spring has finally arrived.

I haven't done much for the past couple days except sit at my desk playing on my laptop. The other day, my new desk neighbor said to me, "I've noticed that you always leave your purse on the floor next to your desk. Why don't you put it in a locker?"

Me: "...There are lockers?"

It turns out that there really aren't lockers, but there are wooden sliding-door cabinets around the edge of the room. She had someone clear out a space in one so I could put my purse in it.

Today is the official Opening Ceremony to start off the new school year. Then next week we'll have two days of taking care of student business before classes start on Wednesday. Until then, it's just me and my laptop.

From reading your journal and the other JET's/ALT's, there certainly seems to be a lack of information proffered to you about really basic stuff, like desks and lockers and oh-yeah,-where'd-my-class-go-now? stuff. Is it just they don't think to tell you what they consider common knowledge, or they don't bother because you guys are the foreign teachers, or for any reason at all? That must be frustrating and baffling many times! Kudos to you for braving the minor yet daily trials of life there - trials that are a pain even at home but that must be trebled by language and alternate customs. (Of course, that's the price to pay for living in the land of all manga, all the time heeheehee.)

I honestly don't know why it happens. My guess is that it's the "common knowledge" reason...or maybe everyone thinks someone else must have told me.

That must be frustrating and baffling many times!

It certainly can be.
