As usual, I didn't get as much done this weekend as I had hoped, but I'm not too disappointed.

After a quick shopping trip on Sunday morning, I spent most of the rest of the day playing more Warcraft. Now that I have my gaming computer up and running and connected to wifi, it's hard to resist. At the end of the day, I figured I needed to make at least a minimal attempt to get something productive accomplished, so I pulled all my raspberries and mulberries out of the freezer to let them thaw.

The blackberries are ripening in earnest now, and I need room in the freezer to store them. Also, I needed to get some jam made before August anyway so that I could take it along with me when I visit Michigan. I spent most of the morning today making jam. I started with about six quarts of berries, but after I ran them through a strainer to get all the seeds out and then boiled the resulting pulp down, I ended up with only six 4-ounce jars of jam. (Interesting fact: Yellow raspberries have pink juice!)

I always feel satisfied after I make some kind of preserves...but I don't look forward to cleaning up the mess of pans...

They are beautiful and they look so yummy! Who would have known that it takes a quart to make four ounces?!

It seems crazy...but it just means there's a lot of goodness concentrated in that jam!
