...It pours...

When I went to work on Monday last week, I discovered that Benny had been attacked by another dog at the kennel over the weekend and had suffered several gashes across his nose. The kennel workers had apparently seen the blood in the kennel, but didn't find the injury, so they didn't think he was hurt. (I guess I get a lot more up close and personal with him than they do.)

I took him to the vet right away to make sure he was all right, and he got some antibiotics so that he wouldn't have to worry about it getting infected. The damage looked painful, but he acted the same as always, and he wasn't licking it or anything that would suggest that it bothered him. The vet said it would no doubt heal fine.

Other than that, I didn't accomplish much to speak of the rest of the week, because it was overcast and rainy for days. On Sunday, when I was doing my laundry, I thought it was odd that my clothes were taking more than double the usual amount of time to dry. At first I imagined the damp weather might have something to do with it, but when they were still tumbling after nearly three hours, I opened the dryer to check. They were all still cold and wet; it seems the heating element in my dryer had broken. I couldn't hang my clothes outside in the rain, so I wound up hanging them in front of the furnace for the rest of the afternoon. At least the washer still works.

Today, when I was taking Benny out for a quick potty break before working a couple flights, I stepped off the curb wrong and twisted my ankle, winding up slamming my knee and hand down on the pavement. (Benny thought this was the best thing ever, since half my treats fell out of my pouch all over the ground.) It wasn't so bad that I couldn't walk, but now my ankle is tender and slightly swollen, my knee is purple, and the heel of my hand is sore and turning a veritable rainbow of colors. I held some cold packs on my hand once I got back to the canine office, since that was the most injured location, but I can tell it's going to be painful for a while.
