I spent a lot of the weekend trying to clean up the kitchen in preparation for my trip. I have a dishwasher now, but I still have to do items like casserole dishes and pasta pots by hand, and those tend to pile up on the stove top and counter while I spend my time on other things. I cleaned up quite a bit and even had time to bake several loaves of bread. After that was done, I managed to drag my suitcases down from the loft in the garage.
The weather has turned exceptionally cold for the Bay Area, getting down below freezing at night. I spent some time pruning plants in the yard that were either killed (tomatoes) or sent into dormancy (grapes) by the temperature. I'll have to take care of the rest of the flowers, bushes, and trees in January, though.
Tuesday I went out for another game night, where we ended up playing Citadels. I had to explain the game about three times, because new people kept showing up just as we were about to start. Luckily, it's a game that can handle a large number of people, because we ended up with six players. The game went quite smoothly, though relatively slowly, because not only was it a new game for most of the people, we were also chatting at the same time. Then at the end of the game, when we were putting the components back in the box, I accidentally knocked my glass of water over into my lap. ~_~ At least it didn't get on the game? It was chilly walking home in 40-degree weather with wet pants, though.
Today I decided to take a nice break from my vacation preparations to enjoy a good meal and a couple hours of TV. I curled up with some parmesan melted on thick slices of homemade bread, the last two of my late-season figs, and a mug of hot chocolate. Sometimes simple things really hit the spot.
