Game I Backed:
SOS Titanic
Status: Funded

This cooperative game based on the classic card game solitaire allows players to work together to try to save as many passengers of the Titanic as possible. This funding campaign is for US distribution, not for creating the game, since it is already available in Europe. I passed it by previously, despite favorable reviews from people who played it at the Essen game convention, because I thought solitaire would be boring. However, watching a video run through of the game changed my mind.

Game I Viewed:
Argent: the Consortium
Status: 43% funded

This is a worker placement game in which the goal is to learn what criteria a consortium of voters is using to elect the new Chancellor of a magical university in order to fulfill their wishes and win the position. The theme sounds interesting, but I'm not sure I like the notion that players will have to battle each other with spells. That just seems a bit too confrontational for a worker placement game.

Argent looks pretty interesting, but I'm worried that it's overly complicated for me (and look at all the space needed for the game!). It's going to be a pretty long campaign, so I'll have plenty of time to think about it, I guess.

I think the hidden goal mechanic is nifty, where players have to spend actions to peek at some goals and watch other players' actions to guess the rest. I just don't think I like that the workers can duel each other. I would probably play with all defensive workers. (And I have to keep reminding myself that I already have half a ton of games in the mail...)
