We drove around to another spot and walked a narrow trail to look at the ocean in another spot, encoutering various forms of wildlife along the way. A snake crossing our path was quite startling, and gave us a good reason to stay out of the long grass. Yet again we had a few minutes to watch the waves crash against the rocks before the fog once again caught up with us. (We joked that it would be fun someday to dress up as someone out of Brigadoon and wander around in the fog pretending not to know what year it was.) As we were driving away, a deer decided to trot along the side of the road with us before cutting across in front of the car. Good thing we were moving slowly!
After that, we tried one of the beaches. The fog was quite thick at that point, and nearly everyone on the beach was in sweatshirts or jackets. (Not one's typical idea of August beachwear...) We sat on a log and took in the scenery for a while, appreciating the chance to recover from all the walking, before calling it a day.
It was great to have the chance to spend so much time chatting.
My kitchen has the flooring installed now and is just waiting on the cabinets to be finished. (Every time I walk in there, I can't help dancing a little.) Hopefully it will only be a few more days before the stove can be hooked back up.
