My plants are all starting to wake up. The ume blossoms are opening, and several bushes are showing green buds. Most exciting, the artichokes in the front yard are beginning to produce. (Aren't those bright colors divine?) If they're starting this early, I can only imagine how many I'll be able to harvest throughout the season.
Next weekend will be a huge planting effort. The plan is to get one raised bed filled with potatoes and start pots for the summer's tomatoes, squash, oca, and yacon.
If I have any spare time, I'm hoping to work on my tomato trial report from last year. I want to record the information before I get it confused with anything I grow this year. I will only be growing four tomato plants this summer, though. Instead, my plan is to grow many different kinds of beans, which take up much less space in the garden and don't need as much processing for storage after harvest.
