I spent some time weeding in the back yard on Friday, though as always there is plenty more to be done. What I'm most excited about is seeing all the bean plants sprouting. Also, my new strawberry plants are finally established enough that I can stop picking the flowers off of them and allow them to begin fruiting.
Speaking of fruit, some of the berries on the wild black nightshade under the tree along my back fence are starting to ripen. (For those who are worried, black nightshade is an edible wild plant that is a completely different species from the infamous deadly nightshade.) I tried one, and it wasn't bad at all. It was rather like an extra sweet tomato. The berries are commonly used in making pies and jam. I bet they would make a very interesting purple ketchup or salsa.
Saturday I got some decluttering done that I've been putting off for weeks. Mainly, I had to clear all the newspapers and junk mail off the table so that I could use the space for racking my apple and dandelion wine into new jugs. (The dead yeast from the fermentation settles to the bottom in a layer of sediment, so every 30-60 days the liquid has to be siphoned off into a new container.)
That's pretty much the extent of what I got done. I'm hoping to be more productive next weekend.
