Yesterday I prepped one of the raised beds and planted my spring vegetables--32 carrots, 9 white beets, 9 turnips, and 2 early cabbages. This time I made a cage for the seeds out of wire mesh to keep the squirrels away and prevent stray cats from using the spot as their litterbox. That took most of the morning. I spent the afternoon weeding the front foundation bed.
Today I dug the last of the Agapanthus roots out of the foundation bed, pruned the roses, planted the fig tree, and transplanted a couple potted flowers out in the front yard. Then I weeded some more in the back yard. One of the camellia flowers has bloomed, and another looks like it will open any day. Each plant only has two flower buds on it, so I won't get much of a show this year, but hopefully they will grow by next year.
I made a batch of meyer lemon/strawberry marmalade in the afternoon. The color is very pretty, though marmalade is a bit of an acquired taste. Earlier I made piña colada kiwi conserve, and that is really good, though it's not going to win any prizes for appearance.
Next week I will be getting a three day weekend. I really need to make a dent in the weeds before they start going to seed.
