First, I took the telephone interview Japanese test, and I managed to score 3+ (which means "uses grammar like a native speaker but has difficulty with complex sentences and idioms"). That qualifies me for a bonus of 3% of my base salary, which is quite nice.
I have also worked on my house-hunting, and I found a nice property with a large (relatively speaking), sunny yard in a pleasant neighborhood that is a walkable distance from the bus. I put an offer on it last week, and now I'm waiting to hear whether the offer has been accepted. (How crazy is it that a price of nearly half a million dollars is a LOW offer...?) I'm supposed to receive an answer before Thanksgiving. If all goes well, I may be able to move in by the end of the year. If not...well, I guess I'll have to wait until next spring to continue my search, because by that point it will be too late to find another property before I leave for training.
The canine supervisor told me that he's trying to get me into the training class that starts January 10. You would think I'd automatically be enrolled in the earliest possible class, considering I was bumped from the previous one, but I guess it doesn't work that way, because he seemed to imply it wasn't a sure thing yet. I'm crossing my fingers that all goes well. Waiting is Hard. ~_~
Next month I will be taking the week of Christmas off to visit my family and friends in Michigan. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.
