06:45 pm: Heading off into the sunrise
I finally finished my cargo training and started back in passenger baggage with my official shoulder stripes. Work there certainly keeps me busy.

Another thing keeping me busy is preparing for my trip to Japan. I'm trying to get my apartment tidied up, though it's difficult to stay on top of the dishes when I can't help dirtying more with every meal. Today I spent a lot of time harvesting as many of my herbs and vegetables as possible before they all die from neglect. One of my cookbooks has a recipe for green tomato curry with garlic and potatoes, so I tried making that for supper tonight, and it tasted pretty good. At least the poor unripe tomatoes won't be going to waste.

I'm leaving on Sunday, and I don't know whether I'll be able to update until after I get back.

Shoulder stripes? Are they on your sleeves or your jacket? Did you put them on yourself, or did you have plain and striped uniforms at the ready?

I'll miss you all while you're gone. I know you'll have a wonderful time. As for me, I'll be pouting in a corner like Tamaki from Ouran until you return.

There are little cloth epaulets that display our GS pay grade. We put them on buttoned straps on the shoulders of our uniforms. GS9 is a silver stripe. When I get my promotion to GS11 at the end of September, I'll get epaulets with an extra little blue and gold bar. We order them from the same company that makes our uniforms.

For jackets, we have to order little metal pins, but those only start at GS11.
