08:02 am: ...Is it just me?
Or has Eastern Michigan University completely vanished from the web? I've been trying to access their website for nearly a week now, since one of my students is applying there, and nothing at the www.emich.edu domain will load. Weird.

One thing I forgot to mention from the "pour" class yesterday. The lesson involved eggs, so the teacher had asked me if I ever ate raw eggs the way they do in Japan. I told him no, in America we tend to worry about salmonella poisoning, so we don't usually eat raw eggs. His response was, "In Japan, we have expiration dates on our eggs, so we don't have to worry about that."

...

Expiration date or no, I'm still not eating any raw eggs.

Hmm... It still refuses to load for me. I once had one of my credit card companies' home pages refuse to load for me because I was trying to access it from overseas; when I tried through a US proxy it loaded just fine. But I can't imagine a *university* balking at overseas access...then again, it's Eastern. I'm beyond being surprised at anything they do. (I want to tell my student "Run away! Run away! Anywhere but Eastern!" ...but that would be rude.)

we have expiration dates on our egg cartons.

On the cartons, yes. Here (depending on where you buy them) they put individual expiration stickers on each egg. ...Though I think he just didn't understand what I was saying. (Today he cautioned the students, "If you ever go overseas, don't eat raw eggs. And don't drink the water.")

I can't access Eastern's page either, so maybe it is blocking access from overseas (or just Japan...?).

Though I think he just didn't understand what I was saying.
I'm positive that's it.

"If you ever go overseas, don't eat raw eggs."
LOL! That's priceless. Yeah, you gotta watch the raw eggs they serve in America. They might be past the expiration date!

That must be the problem. I tried it using MSU's proxy server (luckily they haven't disallowed my password) and it loaded fine. I sent an email to their technical help desk to let them know about the issue, just on the off-chance that it's accidental.

An icon! You have an icon!

Er... that had nothing to do with the preceeding discussion.

<g> I only use icons in replies, rather than in journal entries. I'm trying to keep the main entries reasonably clean/plain and somewhat professional-looking, for the sake of anyone who might want to read them for official exchange-program business.
