I experimented with making vegetable tempura tonight for supper. (I bought a deep fryer a while ago, but I haven't tried it out until now.) Along with the vegetables, I thought I would try making camembert cheese-stuffed rolls, like I had when I went out to dinner with several of the female faculty members.
If I ever try this again, remind me to make absolutely certain the rice paper is closed so the cheese doesn't squirt out into the oil. Oh, sure, cheese deep-fried until it's crispity cruchity *tastes* good, but it makes one heck of a mess.
I also did satsumaimo (since it's Sweet Potato Day) and two different kinds of mushrooms. A Japanese person would probably be appalled at what it all turned out looking like, but it tasted okay. The cheese-stuffed tempura shiitake caps weren't bad.
...However, I wound up making enough to feed a whole family. I stuffed myself, and I still have a heaping bowl left over. It's times like this that I wish my friends lived a lot closer.
