School Festival, Day 1

Today there were performances by six of the homerooms, the baton club, and the acting club. The performances varied from singing and dancing to an informative play about a girl who suddenly finds out she's both pregnant and HIV-positive. My favorite by far, however, was class 2-5's offering--a Kansai-ben version of Snow White. Whoo, man, that was funny. I just wish the students' voices carried better, because I know my videocamera's microphone likely missed a lot of it.

In the middle of the day, various student groups sold things to raise money. Most of them, like the English club, sold food. (I had dumplings and a coffee float.) Some, however, sold other things, such as flowers. One group had collected used books and comics and had a book sale, which I visited. I picked up a movie and two books from a series called Mikeneko Holmes about a police detective who gets clues from a calico cat named Holmes in order to solve mysteries. (Holmes is apparently one of the relatively rare male calico cats.)

Typhoon #21 is hitting us right now. It's predicted to sweep through tonight and be gone by tomorrow, but everyone today was worried that we might have to cancel tomorrow's festival due to strong winds. We'll see what happens.
