05:59 am: My first Monday back
It went okay at school yesterday. Several students came to see me at my desk to get help translating papers, and they noticed the Wizardology book (which megory gave me) sitting on my bookshelf. They were really interested in it and wanted to look in all the "hidden" documents contained inside.

I thought it was cute when I opened one that contained a list of planets and their symbols. I thought it would go right over their heads, because the names of the planets are entirely different in Japanese. They recognized them right away, however. I wondered where they had learned them, until one of the girls dropped the word "sailor," and I realized they recognized the planets as character names from Sailor Moon. (Well, whaddya know. Anime is educational.)

My third-year students have to start giving their final project speeches today. The minimum requirement is that they have the speeches memorized. That's worth 20% of the project grade. They started the speeches (in class) a month ago, at the beginning of December. They were supposed to have the speeches finished last week and turned in to me for grammar checking. Of course, I had a rush of students after school yesterday getting last minute translations of their Japanese originals. They literally kept at it until the bell rang at 5pm and it was time for me to go.

Ooooooooooo nice book! Furuba9 wanted that earlier this year so I split it with her. Then for Christmas she got the Egyptology one from her grandparents. They're beautiful books!

So, how does the time bit go? At what time do the students get out? When you stay until 5, are they through with classes already? Is that their clean up time, that last hour? Is there a bell to dismiss the teachers?

At what time do the students get out?

The last class ends at 3:15pm. After that they have about 20 minutes for homeroom/cleaning, whereupon the bell rings at 3:35.

After that, they either go home or do club activities or whatever.

There's another bell at 4:30, though I don't know what it's for. I leave at the 5pm bell. Other teachers leave whenever they don't have any more work to do, I suppose. There are always a lot of them still there when I leave.
