06:38 pm: The game's afoot
The bean harvest has begun in earnest this week. My results so far are promising. Of this early batch, the one I'm most excited about is the one on the far right end of the top row. It's a manually cross-pollinated hybrid between Four Corners Gold and Rio Zape. I find it fascinating that the color looks nothing like either parent. I'll be very interested in seeing what the next generation will be like next year.

There are still a number of potential varieties that have yet to mature. Hopefully a lot of them will be ready in the next two weeks.

Aside from picking beans, I've been spending all of my free time this past week finishing up a board game I've been developing since last year. I finally got all the art, layout, and rules completed. It now has an official entry in the BGG database.

Congratulations on The Dragon and the Emperor!

I can't tell from the photo: does the hybrid have any spots or swirl things like the Rio Zape, or is it solid black?

Thanks!

It's mostly solid black, but it does have very tiny light purple flecks.

Hurray for The Dragon and the Emperor! I really like the new work you've done on the art and card design. They look awesome.

...I am still blown away by the crazy wide variety of looks and sizes of all the beans! So neat!

And awesomeness about your own board game, that's so fantastic!

Thank you!

I'm hoping to do a "best of the beans 2015" post at some point. Maybe after Japan?
