07:56 pm: Girl talk
I was fortunate to have a three day weekend. Also, the weather that had been gloomy and chilly all month finally let some sun through for a couple days.

I took advantage of my Saturday off to pay a visit to the dentist for cleaning. I rewarded my good behavior by picking up a half dozen doughnuts afterward. (That's why the dentist is a block from the doughnut shop, right?)

In the evening, I attended another Indian food cooking class, where I learned to make potato masala dosa. SO GOOD. I stuffed myself so full that I could barely walk home when the class ended.

I spent Sunday morning tidying up a bit for company. In the afternoon, I went to the train station to pick up gnine, who will be staying with me for two weeks while she attends workshop classes in San Francisco. We chatted the rest of the evening and ended the night by trying out my copy of Incredible Expeditions.

Today, after she left to attend her first day of class, I did some grocery shopping and then returned home to spend a few hours weeding the back yard. Ordinarily, I would have been harvesting cherries and figs by now, but the weather has been so cold and gray all month that nothing is ripe yet. Hopefully the garden will be more interesting in a couple weeks.

Did you have fun with Incredible Expeditions? I'm a little jealous you have your copy already; since I got the special edition, I have to wait for the foil cards.

It took us about an hour just to get through reading the rules. It separates the competitive and cooperative rules into different parts of the rule book, but the problem is that if you flip directly to the cooperative section, it says, "This plays just like the competitive version, but with the following changes..." So you have to read BOTH sections to play cooperatively. Also, I was missing one Consequence card (the one recommended in the rule book for use during the first game).

I'm glad that I added on a metal die at the end of the campaign, because the plastic one that came with the base game was terrible. Not only does all the intricate carving make it hard to read the numbers, it's warped such that there's no way it will roll fairly. The metal one is great.

After the slow start, the game went pretty well. We did forget one rule during our first turn, so we had to backtrack a bit, but after that things went okay. I can see how players could make an interesting story out of each game, if they get into the various characters. We mostly played it like a puzzle to solve. It took us about two hours to get through the whole adventure, though we could see how it would go faster with players who knew what they were doing. We ended up winning.

I don't suppose you'd care to hear that I've shown her up through episode 6 so far...

Awesome! Thank you for indulging me, even if you don't like it that much. (Or maybe it's better the second time through?)

I do still find it entertaining to watch. I just don't feel so devoted to the main characters that I would go out seeking additional material/merchandise for them.

That's awesome the weather finally warmed up a bit. I was looking at some houses in San Mateo earlier in May and thought it was a bit colder than usual.

I hope you had fun having a friend staying over.

I finished my 2 week trip to Japan and will board at Narita in an hour. This trip has been really fun and productive. I went to a lot of places popular with domestic tourists like Himeji, Gero, Kanazawa, Bandai, Matsushima and etc. I will try to make a post about it later. I hope you'll take a peak. =P
