04:50 am: 2014 Kickstarter Game Update Week 37
It has certainly been awhile since there has been anything worth looking at on Kickstarter. Also, somehow a ghost pledged me for one of the games on my starred list (I quickly cancelled); more on that during my weekend update.

Games I Viewed:

Eminent Domain: Microcosm
Status: Funded

This is a microgame set in the Eminent Domain universe that I tried out with sara_tanaquil at GenCon. Note that the game comes with promos for other TMG games, such as Eminent Domain and Dungeon Roll. I considered backing just to get the promos, but I haven't even used the Eminent Domain promos that I already own, so it doesn't seem quite worth it.

Japanese: The Game - Tokyo Edition
Status: Funded

This set of cards allows the addition of another player to the game. There are also expansions with more vocabulary. I didn't order the first one, so I won't be getting this (ghost notwithstanding), but I thought someone might be interested.

Lanterns: The Harvest Festival
Status: 90% funded

This is a combination tile-laying set collection game based on the idea of floating colored lanterns in various patterns on the water. It's very pretty, but (if you'll pardon the pun) a bit light for my taste.

Dragon's Ransom
Status: 43% funded

This is a solitaire/coop game for up to 2 players with a reverse dungeon crawl theme--that is, the player commands the forces of evil in the dungeon and is trying to stop the "heroes" from plundering it. It looks like something I would really enjoy, but I'm trying to save my money for the Tokyo Game Market.

I'm very tempted by Dragon's Ransom (the theme and the 2-player co-op), so I've starred it and will probably pony up the $25 so we can play it someday. I feel like I need more games that can be played by two players.

If you do, I'd love to try it with you.

Those all look tempting to me! (So far, just starred.) I do plan to back the new Japanese:the Game version, but only if I get my original set first so I can try it out. It's supposed to be arriving any day now.

megory told me that she got her copy, so I'm sure yours can't be too far behind.

I already backed Lanterns--I've been waiting for that one to go live. I also backed Length x Wit (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tinderbox/length-x-wit). I didn't want to wait on that one because I wanted to get in on the holiday tier.

Thanks for the link to Length x Wit! That looks like a beautiful game - too bad I hate scrabble type games. I mean, I'd probably play if someone else wanted to, but it's the last thing I would buy for myself.

A book nerd who hates Scrabble - I know, it's weird. I don't understand it myself, and I've never met another one. Weirder because I love crossword puzzles.

Well, I think Scrabble is a boring game that sucks, but like a lot of other word games. Do you mean all word games when you say "Scrabble-type games"? Or have you just not played enough non-Scrabble word games to know if there might be some you like?

That's certainly possible. I don't enjoy Words with Friends or Boggle, but can't think of any others, so who knows what is out there waiting for me to discover.

In the meantime, I'll go back to my crosswords.

Well, there are lots of word games out there, but I can't think of mechanics other than building words and searching for words, so maybe you just don't like word games. (Which is still not weird! You are allowed to not like things!) Hopefully sometime we'll get a chance to play Paperback, because I seem to remember spacealien_vamp saying she liked it even though she doesn't like word games.
