07:53 am: Who wouldn't want a Book Wall?
I didn't get much done out in the yard this week, mainly because it was too cold. Friday was the one sunny, warm day, so I got some weeding done in the front yard. I also pruned back my ume tree. (I followed the directions in my Japanese pruning book...I hope it turns out okay.)

My dad finished a wall of shelves in the guest room. The shelves wrap around to the sides of the window seat. It didn't take long before I filled them with books.

That takes care of most of the paperbacks. The hardcovers will go on the other side of the window seat. It's nice to be able to whittle away at the mountains of boxes filling all corners of the house.

This comment in no way minimizes my envy over your copious shelving space or my awe at your father's skill, but...is that a bed directly beneath the wall of books? If so, the answer is me. I would not want a wall of books over my head while I was trying to sleep. Two lightly-populated shelves, tops.

In the picture, the bed is even with the end of the window seat, which is 2 feet away from the edge of the bookshelves. So it's not directly beneath.

The shelves are really coming along! Is anything in the little wraparound area that meets the window seat? How will that fit in with the organization of the rest of the shelves? Or are/will they be a different category of book?

(These are Important Questions.)

Right now, I put digest-sized magazines there. (I have several old copies of F&SF magazine and TV Guide.) It's not enough to fill up the space, so there isn't any conflict for the moment.

Those shelves are going to continue up the wall, but they have to wait until the other side of the room is done, because they will be made out of the remnants.

I'm glad to hear that, because I was kind of wondering why they didn't. It makes sense to make that part from remnants, though.

Your dad is officially the Best Thing Ever. Can he do my house next?

(Seriously, it's beautiful!)
