06:51 pm: So, how is the packing coming?
Fancy you should ask.

I'm currently working on packing up clothes I won't need during the next month and more books. The boxes are starting to make a small wall across my hobby room. I may need to run to the post office to buy some more boxes tomorrow.

I'm also buying last-minute DVDs and other items, such as converters for the electrical appliances I'll be taking with me.

I was a bit shocked yesterday when I got a phone call from the travel agency saying they hadn't received payment for my plane ticket back to Michigan. Oddly, during the time it took me to run to my purse and locate the receipt, the travel agent was like, "Oh, wait a minute, here's your payment. Never mind." Huh? You wait until AFTER calling me to look for it, what?

The package of information for my trip to Australia arrived the other day. Apparently everyone on the tour has to wear a hunking big ball pen on a cord so the tour guide can identify them. Anyway, at least now I know the hotels where I'll be staying while I'm there.

I'm still working on trying out new recipes while I can. It's hard when each one makes enough for 2-4 meals, and I'm just one person. I have to finish the old stuff before I can make something new, or else I won't have enough room in the refrigerator. A side effect is that it keeps me busy constantly washing dishes. At the same time, I'm trying to whittle away at my reserves of canned/dried/frozen foods before I wind up having to toss things.

I've also been spending a lot of time with megory playing Warcraft. We finally got our characters to level 70, the current highest level.

Australia!? Excellent! I'm so excited for you! I can't wait to hear all about it.

Xerxes and I are back to playing WOW. We're on Argent Dawn under Wrenwyn and Greylocke. I'm working on getting exalted with Netherwing. I'm currently 5675/21000 so I'm almost there. I don't think it's been bad...I just started last Thursday but I hear about people who have found so many eggs they got it in three/four days and I want to shoot myself.

Xerx is a drood so he's been working on epic bird flight. He's almost finished too. Although with our guild it's going to be damn near impossible to get Heroic in whatever instance he needs to enter to kill his last mob.

Anyway, been meaning to write and say hi and that we were playing again. I so enjoy all your posts but your WOW posts have a special place in my heart. :) Also, I think it's fabulous Megory plays with you! I wish my parents showed more interest.

Take care on your trip!! I wish you a safe journey and happy adventures!

Congratulations! I only did the Netherwing grind on one character. I can't imagine doing it on anything other than a hunter. How on earth do the other classes survive those giant drakonid elites without feign death?!

I just did that one myself, and I'm currently on the last step (the heroic). I'm lucky that my guild farms heroics regularly, so I can probably talk a group into dragging me along.

Yay! I made a character on your server, but I never get a chance to play her, so she's still only level 11 or so.

Congratulations on filling up the boxes. Each one is one box closer to finishing.

Thanks, again, for getting me to level 70 and getting the epic flying mount.

I haven't gone out on my own, yet.

On another topic, I turned in the application for retirement to the state, so I guess when they accept it, the deed is officially done. Bob and I celebrated with a meal at a new Japanese restaurant in Okemos called AI FUSION. We had salad, miso soup, vegetarian sushi, and tofu teriyaki. We were thinking of you, so we stopped at the Oriental Mart we noticed nearby and picked up some soba and Kirin milk tea so you won't go into immediate withdrawal when you get back!

How thoughtful! I love that milk tea.

I hope you enjoy your retirement!

Thanks for the good wishes. My brother corrected me that it isn't actually a retirement if I plan to still work somewhere else. He is calling it a career change. We'll see if I find something else. Everyone I know who has retired from my workplace is now working somewhere else, so I guess my brother is right. They all say that they are happy, though, and that is certainly a great goal!

What else besides milk tea would soften the blow of being back? I wanted to walk up and down the aisles of the mart to see if anything else would call out to me, but I couldn't really defend the meandering to Bob who hates "window shopping."

I honestly don't know how you do it. I need all my stuff to be accessible all the time. Packing something away generates an immediate need to unpack it.

When you're levelled up all the way, does WoW become dull? Or are there still objects you want to acquire for these characters?

When you're levelled up all the way, does WoW become dull? Or are there still objects you want to acquire for these characters?

There are still lots of things to do. Some people say that the game STARTS when you reach the level cap.

1. Get better gear. This can be accomplished through a variety of means, including:
  • Grinding reputation. There are "factions" in the game, and when you kill their enemies, or do favors for them, you get good rep with them. The better your rep, the better they reward you.
  • Running 5-person instances for loot and badges. Difficult bosses drop items called "Badges of Justice" that you can use like money to purchase better gear.
  • Player versus player. Some people like to pit their skills against other players in special battlegrounds and arenas. When you do this, you earn points and tokens that can be used to purchase gear.
  • Raiding. Joining a 10-player or 25-player raid allows you to fight ever more difficult boss monsters for better and better loot. (This requires having lots of friends...)
  • Crafting. Characters each get two professions. Some of these, such as tailoring, leatherworking, and blacksmithing, allow you to make better gear out of raw materials. You can either craft it yourself or pay someone else to craft it for you.

2. If you don't care about better gear, you may enjoy other aspects of the game, such as collecting items. There are a number of rare vanity items, such as mini-pets that follow you around, or unusual mounts. These items don't enhance your character in any way, but some people enjoy collecting them for the fun of it.

3. Role-playing. Some people like to immerse themselves in the world and create a persona for each character. They dress the character up in costumes to achieve a desired look, create a life history for the character, explore the world, and spend time just interacting with other players. Some act out elaborate stories, have in-game marriages, and other such things.

4. Earning gold. Some players enjoy earning in-game gold as kind of a "safe" version of playing the stock market. It's like an intellectual challenge to see how much gold they can make.

5. Twinking. This refers to taking advantage of the resources you have by virtue of your maximum level character and splurging on fitting out a low-level character with all the best gear possible. Some players go to extremes to get a low-level character totally decked out. It's a challenge to get the character good items without accidentally leveling up too high.

So there are many things to do, depending on personal preference.
