05:03 am: Timing is everything
Saturday morning I spent mostly doing last-minute cleaning. (The hobby room is still a disaster area, though, so I have declared it off limits.)

In the afternoon, I set off to pick up my parents from the airport. I left early, not knowing whether I would get good train transfers. As it happened, I was quite lucky and didn't have to wait for trains long at all. This meant that I arrived at the airport about an hour early.

Coincidentally, my parents' plane also arrived an hour early, so I barely waited a few minutes before they walked out the gate. We made it back to my apartment with no trouble, unpacked all the great stuff they brought me, and went straight to bed.

In the morning, since we all got up in the wee hours long before anything would open, I played Warcraft with megory for a while. At around 10:30 we walked to Moriyama Station, where they were selling tickets for a special bus that made a circut around the city to visit lotus gardens that are currently in bloom. We were lucky, because the lotus bus only runs six days out of the whole summer. We stopped off first at the Biwako Museum, then went to the first lotus garden. The flowers were absolutely amazing.

By the time we finished there, it was nearly 2pm, and we still hadn't had any lunch because the restaurants had been packed (and weren't serving much for vegetarians anyway). We got back on the bus and rode it back to the station. There we picked up some food at the supermarket and came back to my apartment for a very late lunch.

We were all rather tired after the morning's activities, so for the rest of the afternoon I showed my parents the first three episodes of Hanazakari. Then megory played her new character a little more, getting to level 8 before we were all ready for bed.

That picture is funny--I thought the flower was part of your mom's shirt at first.

Hope you're all having a good time! But what about Harry Potter? Are you planning on traveling anywhere?

But what about Harry Potter?

We'd have to go to a bigger city to find a bookstore with Harry Potter in English. It's actually kind of lonely because there's nothing but Harry Potter spoilers on my friends list, so I can't really read any of it.

Are you planning on traveling anywhere?

My dad doesn't want to. We probably won't go much farther than Osaka.

Why not just order it from Amazon again? Seems like you'd want to get it now, so your parents can lug it back to the States after you're done reading and you won't have to worry about packing it.

Then I'd have to worry about being home when it's delivered, which I can't guarantee, since we're out sightseeing all the time. If I'm going to miss it and have to get it re-delivered anyway, might as well just wait until I can buy it in person.

Well, my dad is only here until August 2nd. It doesn't seem like a very nice thing to do to spend an entire day (or whatever) of his limited time here just reading a book, when I could be doing things with him.

My mom is staying for a whole month, though. So I can wait and send it back with her later.

it looks like you're parents are doing well...that's good
i haven't talked with them in a while

what is Hanazakari?

i've been feeling a little anime-deprived lately...i watched some decent stuff a while ago, but now there's a void...i haven't seen naruto since episode 199 (among other things), and i don't know what's out now that's good

what is Hanazakari?

The full title is Hanazakari no Kimi-tachi e. It's a live-action comedy series (sort of like a sit-com, but with hour-long episodes) based on a manga of the same title.

As for anime, the only one I watch is Detective Conan. There are several more things available that I would watch if they aired on any of my stations, but they are either on satellite channels or TV Tokyo. Two I would recommend are Saiunkoku Monogatari (a fantasy set in an ancient-China-like world) and Ghost Hunt (supernatural mysteries about a group of ghostbusters).

yeah, I always enjoyed Meitantei Conan also. I suppose it appeals to my meticulous and inquisitive nature. Unfortunately, I haven't seen it in a while. And outside of the first few movies, I've only seen English dubs.

But Saiunkoku Monogatari and Ghost Hunt sound intriguing. I'll look into them. Thanks!

Other series you might enjoy are Death Note and D. Gray-man. I started reading the manga series, but I gave up partway through on both because they were too morbid for my taste.

Oh, I forgot to mention that they are both wildly popular, which is why I list them as possibilities.
