07:20 pm: Progress here, progress there
Yukata: I attached the front strips last night and spent all my free time today hemming. The next step will be to attach the collar, which is the hardest part of the whole process and will probably have to wait until the weekend.

I wore the skirt I made last year to work today. One of my students was impressed by it and suggested I should join the design club. ^_^

The vice-principal came to my desk to talk to me about my contract. He said that the city of Moriyama has decided to offer me the possibility of renewing my contract twice more, until the current freshman class graduates in March 2008. This contradicts what I had been told earlier, that Ritsumeikan was going to interview me for a position, but I'm not about to argue. He said that a new contract would have to be written, but it shouldn't be too different from the one I have now.

After school, two of the English club girls worked diligently on putting together a report of their Kyoto interview results. They were still at it when I left. I hope the finished product turns out well.

I'd say that at least moderate celebration is in order.

Now the big question is...

when do we get to go back to visit you?

That's really cool. That is, you'd like to stay until then, right?

I must say that I am very impressed with the school's flexibility and acceptance of a difficult situation at the beginning of the school year. By the school, I mean the students, parents, teachers, administrators, and board members who were not part of the decision for the change. I am sure there is still a lot of waiting until more decisions can be made to know what the coming years will be like.

It's really great that they prioritized letting you know so that you can make plans, also.

Anytime! There are still tons of places you haven't gotten to see yet...

I would definitely like to stay one more year. To be honest, I'm waffling about the second year. I still think it would be great if you could come teach here for a year, but I don't know if Moriyama would be hip to having you substitute for me, even if 4/07 to 3/08 would fit into your schedule.

In any case, extra time is preferable to leaving early.

I must say that I am very impressed with the school's flexibility and acceptance of a difficult situation at the beginning of the school year.

I don't know if "acceptance" is the word for it...I'd say it's more along the lines of "resignation"...they don't like it, but they don't have any other choice.

Next year will certainly be interesting in a number of ways...
