06:06 am: Hobbies? What hobbies? <whistles innocently>
I meant to post last night, but I was more interested in finishing my book. I've been doing pretty much nothing but read these past two days. I found a new series that I simply adore. (Unfortunately, it only has three volumes so far, which means only one left to read. ;_;) It kind of reminds me a lot of the Nightrunner series, though the plot and setting are quite different.

Aside from reading, I tried making satsuma imo (Japanese sweet potato) stew. That turned out quite well.

I also ordered some software: one set of Japanese fonts (the drool got the better of me) and one Japanese calligraphy program. I've been wanting a calligraphy program since I saw one (possibly this same one) last winter with the rest of the New Year postcard supplies. I bought a book several months back about Japanese sumi-e painting, but I haven't quite broken down and bought all the brushes, ink, and paper. I figure this is a good compromise.

You can just tell this program is going to be so awesome. By the time you combine it with a few of your other hobbies, embroidery, etc., who knows what'll evolve?

Sweet potato stew sounds awesome. I'm sure it isn't actually sweet, as in the way we fix sweet potatoes with raisins and brown sugar.

Do they use any special herbs?

Indeed...

Do they use any special herbs?

This one called for one potato, chopped up and sauteed lightly in 1T butter. Dust with 1 1/2T flour and add two cups of milk, then simmer until cooked. The recipe said to add half a cube of consomme powder with salt and pepper. I used a tablespoon of vegetarian chicken broth with pepper, celery salt, rosemary, and fennel.

The whole thing made two servings.
